About the Book- More Reviews:
Charlie Walbridge- 2005 Whitewater Hall of Fame Honoree
Sue's wonderful history accurately describes
what was going on when I started paddling in the 70's. There's a lot of information here, and there is something to interest
almost any paddler.
David Weber- Whitewater Writer (from Boatertalk.com review)
It is objectively written and Taft's sources are
excellent (referencing extensive interviews and sighting numerous publications). This book, a copy of Eric Jackson's 'Strokes
and Concepts', and the local guidebook should make up the basic library for anyone seriously committed to understanding and pursuing
whitewater kayaking.
Bob Woodward- Outdoor Sports Writer (from SNEWSNET.com review)
Despite its relatively short history
in America, whitewater kayaking and canoeing has a colorful and often tortuously convoluted history. Taft's gift of research
and her love of the whitewater sport combine for a comprehensive and readable history. It's a must-read.
Clay Wright- Freestyle
Champion and U.S. Freestyle Member
The history of kayaking is NOT up for sale on this re-write. Sue's making sure of that.
She's asked the people who were there the right questions and printed both sides of the discrepancies. Nice work, good read.
The US grabbed the reigns from the Europeans in the 80's and by the late 90's was leading the kayaking evolution of the world.
"If you don't know your post, how can you know your future?" Required reading for the new school to move us on and take it to
the next level.
